LIBYAN SUGAR - Michael C. Brown
In *Libyan Sugar*, Michael Christopher Brown (b. 1978) documents the 2011 Libyan revolution. Choosing to recreate the atmosphere by taking photos with the same device used by Libyans—a cell phone—he captures nearly 400 images, accompanied by extensive written reflections in which he shares both his thoughts and his emotions. This book is a record of the photographer’s life; it captures the story of a young reporter going to war for the first time and his experience at that age. In doing so, he expresses a long-held desire to get as close as possible to a conflict in order to discover not only what war truly is but also to rediscover himself in part—a journey that can be seen as a certain definition of life and death.
