OPENING RECEPTION - "VOYAGES EN ITALIE" by Marc Verrecchia

This special feature takes readers on a journey to the heart of Italy through a selection of photo books. Far from tourist clichés, these books offer a variety of perspectives on a country shaped by its history, landscapes, traditions, and contemporary contradictions.

A photo book offers a unique way to engage with images: you flip through the pages, linger on certain images, and flip back. Each publication becomes a visual narrative—a personal journey through Italy as told by photographers with diverse perspectives.

This collection is an invitation to embark on a journey—not a geographical one, but an emotional one—that brings together a selection of books by Italian and international photographers dedicated to this country. Each book offers a unique perspective: landscapes, scenes of daily life, fragments of history, or contemporary perspectives.

Marc Verrecchia has been a used-book dealer on the banks of the Seine in Paris for 30 years. A specialist in fine art and photography books, he has been collecting books about Italy all these years, a tiny fraction of which he offers for sale at L'INAPERÇU.

OPENING RECEPTION - “Un Air de Famille” by Todd Hido

OPENING RECEPTION - “Un Air de Famille” by Todd Hido

For many years, the photography book remained in the shadow of photography itself, but today it has established its own identity and has become an indispensable part of photography under its now-established English term: “photobook.”

Given the diversity and sheer number of publications—from the invention of photography to the recent craze for photobooks—the need for reviews has become apparent, leading to the creation of comprehensive compilations, such as the trilogy by Parr & Badger, as well as collections focused on specific areas: geographic regions, photographers, themes, and so on…

It is with great pleasure that L’INAPERÇU—for which the photobook is at the very heart of its identity—presents a selection of some fifty of these compilations, these “Books on Photobooks,” which are often rare because they are highly sought after by collectors.

To mark this “carte blanche” for L’INAPERÇU, Innocences and Les Yeux Ouverts are co-publishing *The Book of Books on Photobooks*, a compilation of books about photography books published around the world, featuring more than a hundred titles.

OPENING RECEPTION – “A Photograph, a Book from the Collection of Jérôme Prochiantz”

For the first time, the L’INAPERCU bookstore is entrusting its curation to a collector.

“A Photograph, a Book from Jérôme Prochiantz’s Collection” presents a selection of 60 photography books featuring reproductions of prints from his collection. Jérôme Prochiantz is no ordinary collector. Passionate about photography, he has amassed over 500 prints over the years, which he has lovingly hung on the walls of his apartment. It is an apartment where icons of photography—such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Arthur Tress, and Nan Goldin—hang side by side with lesser-known artists who have left a deep impression on him.

Jérôme Prochiantz also owns more than 600 photobooks featuring the photographs he has collected. Each book is an extension of his passion for photography. These works thus serve as valuable records of his journey as a collector.

This unique interplay between prints and photobooks offers a fresh perspective on this very personal collection.
