L'Inaperçu bookshop was delighted to welcome you last Monday, for the launch of the "ICONO PHONE" box: a memo-photographic game by Erik Kessels initiated by Nadia Banian and Eric Chesnais, published by Pymaryd.

ICONO PHONE is the fruit of a collaboration between two atypical, playful collectors. On the one hand, Erik Kessels, known for his attachment to vernacular images. He enjoys hunting down anonymous images, isolating them from their original context and giving them a second life. He knows how to locate, select and assemble these anonymous photos, which he reinterprets according to his own interpretation keys, always with humor and without judgment. On the other hand, Nadia Banian and Éric Chesnais, passionate about contemporary art and photography, like to take everyday objects out of their context and give them a new status by collaborating with artists such as Erik Kessels.

Their aim is not to be exhaustive in their collections, but rather to assemble colors, shapes, memories and encounters with the unexpected. For this project, they have chosen to focus on the iconic "dial" telephones of the 60s, 70s and 80s. Although these objects have disappeared from our daily lives, they remain present in our minds as witnesses to a bygone era and a particular lifestyle and communication style.
