JPEGS - Thomas Ruff

165,00 €
Out of print

In 2007, Thomas Ruff completed his monumental series of JPEGs, in which he explored the distribution and reception of images in the digital age. Using images sourced primarily from the web, Ruff enlarges them to a gigantic scale, exaggerating the pixel patterns until they become sublime geometric displays of color. Many works in Ruff’s series focus on idyllic, seemingly untouched landscapes and, conversely, on scenes of war and nature disrupted by human manipulation. Taken together, these masterpieces constitute an encyclopedic compendium of contemporary visual culture that also fits into the history of landscape painting. A luxurious, oversized volume, jpegs is the first monograph devoted exclusively to the publication of Ruff’s remarkable series. The book also includes an essay by Bennett Simpson, associate curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
