SASUKE - Masahisa Fukase

80,00 €
Out of print

In 1977, Masahisa Fukase, a world-famous Japanese photographer, notably for his cult book The Solitude of Ravens (1986), turned his lens on his new companion: his cat Sasuke.

Surrounded by felines since childhood, Fukase decided with the arrival of this new kitten to make it a photographic subject in its own right. He took the kitten with him wherever he went and, in an almost experimental, long-term form, explored a new practice: "That year, I took a lot of photos crawling on my stomach to be at a cat's eye level and, in a way, that made me a cat. It was a joyful job, taking these photos playing with what I liked, in tune with the changes in nature. "The cat, a faithful companion who never leaves his side, takes the place of his wife, the eternal heartbreak also represented by the emblematic fleeing crows. This book closes the series of publications dedicated to his cats and begun in 2015 with Wonderful days (Roshin books, Japan).

  • Hardcover

  • 18.5 x 26 cm

  • 123 B&W photographs

  • 192 pages

  •  Texts Masahisa Fukase & Tomo Kosuga
