PARIS LES LIVRES DE PHOTOGRAPHIE 1920-1950 - Christian Bouqueret
Paris has always been a hub of vibrant creativity. From the 1920s to the 1950s, the avant-garde movements laid the groundwork for a multifaceted modernity in photography. Quite naturally, Paris became the cradle of an exceptional publishing scene: the production of photography books emerging in and around the capital followed this wave of enthusiasm and produced some of the most significant works in the history of photography. It is around this golden age of photography that Christian Bouqueret has decided to showcase the finest gems of publishing—works that are largely impossible to find today, created by the greatest photographers: Laure Albin Guillot, Hans Bellmer, Brassaï, Claude Cahun, Robert Doisneau, Germaine Krull, Roger Parry, Man Ray, and others. For more than three decades, the photography book in France has reflected the rich diversity of photographic production and supported various research efforts not only in the field of film photography but also in areas related to graphic design, typography, and layout.
