SOKOHI - Moe Suzuki
As her father gradually loses his sight due to glaucoma, artist Moe Suzuki begins to document their daily lives together. The images thus created are mixed with family photographs and photographs taken by her father himself. Through this rich documentation, Moe Suzuki attempts to show what sighted people can see but her father cannot, and to imagine what her father can see but others cannot.
Moe Suzuki was born in Tokyo and studied photography at London College Communications, University of the Arts London. Returning to Tokyo after the great earthquake of 2011, Moe Suzuki taught herself bookbinding. She then began a career as a visual artist, focusing on photography, which she combines with archival images and illustrations. Her work focuses on subjects such as community life, the disabled and spirituality.
This book is the winner of the 7th edition of the LUMA Rencontres Dummy Book Award Arles 2021. Its publication was made possible by the support of the award's founders: Les Rencontres d'Arles & LUMA Foundation.
