Out of print

Produced to coincide with the exhibition James Barnor: Stories. Le portfolio 1947-1987, presented in 2022 at the LUMA foundation as part of the Rencontres d'Arles, the book offers a kaleidoscopic look at the work of the Ghanaian photographer. From Accra to London and London to Accra, from the late colonial era to the early 1980s, from studio portraits to press commissions, the reader goes behind the scenes of his most famous images, while exploring more confidential aspects of this exceptional archive. This exhibition is the first retrospective in France of a photographer who, at nearly 93 years of age, continues to inspire generations of contemporary artists, and whose work is now represented in the world's leading collections; preface by Maja Hoffmann, texts by Matthieu Humery, Damarice Amao, Margaux Lavernhe, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Isabella Seniuta, b&w and color photos.
