Produced in conjunction with the exhibition *James Barnor: Stories. The 1947–1987 Portfolio*, presented in 2022 at the LUMA Foundation as part of the Rencontres d’Arles, this book offers a kaleidoscopic view of the Ghanaian photographer’s work. From Accra to London and from London to Accra, from the end of the colonial era to the early 1980s, from studio portraits to press commissions, readers are taken behind the scenes of his most famous images while exploring more intimate aspects of this exceptional archive. This exhibition is the first retrospective in France of this photographer who, at nearly 93 years old, continues to inspire generations of contemporary artists and whose work is now featured in the world’s leading international collections; preface by Maja Hoffmann, texts by Matthieu Humery, Damarice Amao, Margaux Lavernhe, Hans Ulrich Obrist, and Isabella Seniuta, black-and-white and color photographs.
