That's when walls are thin - Chantal Rens
"That's when walls are thin" is a series of works created between 2010 and 2020. The collages contain material collected from Dutch magazines from the 30s to the 60s, such as "Katholieke Illustratie", "Beatrijs" and "Libelle".
The world of images lulls the viewer into a certain sense of comfort, awakening nostalgic longings for a simple world that doesn't exist. Chantal Rens's new images, with their torn and pasted excerpts, leave little room for nostalgia: the distance in time serves above all as a reminder that nothing has ever been perfect and never will be.
