OVER TIME - Ange Leccia
This book invites the reader on an immersive journey through a selection of videos spanning the 1980s to 2022. In a multi-layered narrative, Ange Leccia’s film works—such as*La Mer*,*Drapeau*,*Ô Superman*, and*Chênes Verts*—unfold in a long, poetic tracking shot that plays with the conventions of Super 8 cinema. With no real beginning or end, like a video loop, the images can be appreciated as if one were stepping into acamera obscura. The grain of the video image, the sometimes saturated colors, the variations in light, and the play of shadows immerse us in representations bordering on abstraction, in a hypnotic pulsation. The material becomes almost pictorial. In Leccia’s work, nature—earth, air, sea, fire, wind—awakens the senses: the viewer loses their bearings, their points of reference in reality.
For this book, Ange Leccia has created a series of diptychs drawn from her video(D’)Après Monet, a sensitive evocation of the artist’s garden in Giverny that interweaves scenes from Sacha Guitry’s film showing Monet at work. Her latest video,Au film du temps(2022), is also featured prominently in the book.
