CAPITOLIO (Special Edition) - Christopher Anderson
Christopher Anderson (1970-) is an American photographer and member of Magnum Photos. He is one of the leaders of a new generation of photographers combining the documentary and the artistic. In this book of photographs, he depicts a poetic and political vision of Caracas, a city torn apart by popular unrest at the time. Here, he sheds light on the fate of a city and a country whose troubles go unreported by the Western media, noting the incongruities of a country where violence and sensuality are chaotically intertwined (exchanges of fire between police and street gangs, shantytowns burning with sex and violence, and of course, Chavez supporters and detractors). In the book, these peaceful moments are often juxtaposed with more discordant images, a reminder of the contradictions inherent in Chavez Land. The word "Capitolio" refers to the domed building that houses a government.
