EGYPT - Vera Lutter

This book is a catalog of an exhibition by the German multidisciplinary artist Vera Lutter (b. 1960) held at Gagosian London in 2011. The artist undertook a trip to Egypt to conduct research on the country’s ancient architecture, including the rhomboidal pyramid at Dahshur, the pyramid at Meidum, and the Great Sphinx of Giza. To create these photos, Vera Lutter used an empty suitcase lined with photosensitive paper, similar to a camera obscura, a primitive photographic process she often employs. Each of these photographs therefore conforms to the dimensions of this improvised device, producing a much more intimate scale than in her previous series.
