TEMPORA MORTE - Lia Darjes
During a residency in Kaliningrad (formerly East Prussia), Lia Darjes discovered the small improvised market stalls on the roadsides of this neglected area largely cut off from the development of modern Europe. At the simplest improvised stalls, old women offer what they gather with their hands from their gardens, fields and nearby forests to supplement their meager pensions. The images are sublimated by the aura of the stripped-down, simple presentation of goods on the ground, on wooden boxes, newspapers or simple camping tables. Lia Darje's photos show what's on offer in a classic, almost timeless impression: potatoes, apples, berries, flowers, garlic tubers, homemade marmalade, and more exceptionally a piece of meat and a few portraits of street vendors complete her still lifes.
