Candy, Andy & The Bearandas - Alain Dein
Candy, Andy & The Bearandas – In a picture-perfect English village, two panda bears, Mr. and Mrs. Bearanda, are raising their plastic children, Candy and Andy.
Created by Gerry Anderson’s Century 21 Productions (Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet) for the 1960s comic book market, the images created for the photo-strips offer a surreal and unique perspective on domestic life, family, and childhood. Due to their unusual nature, they never achieved the popularity of Anderson’s other characters, and the comic strips were discontinued after a year.
This photo book showcases the best original transparencies from this brilliantly bizarre project: whether behind the wheel of their striped Mini, getting ready for Bonfire Night, or taking a boat ride, Candy, Andy, and the Bearandas inhabit an unforgettable, dreamlike world. The carefully restored images are lovingly presented in a faux-leather hardcover (with hot-stamped lettering and an integrated cover image).
The book also includes a foreword by Jamie Anderson, Gerry Anderson’s son, and an introduction tracing the history of the Candy project by historian and animator Alan Dein.
