Groeten van Het Rode Autootje - Sonja Van Hamel
Twelve years ago, musician and designer Sonja van Hamel stumbled upon a set of 1960s postcards of the Afsluitdijk. Each card featured a red car under a blue sky. The mesmerizing effect of the little car and the so-called “Tati” element (the absurdity of repetition) sparked an unprecedented collecting frenzy that continues to this day. Van Hamel scours flea markets and thrift stores in search of red cars. She has collected hundreds of postcards, landscapes, and cityscapes, always featuring that little red car.
For *Greetings from the Red Car*, Sonja van Hamel has selected the most beautiful cards from her collection. We see the little red car leaving Amsterdam, taking day trips to the beach, spending vacations in France and Spain, going on winter sports trips to Switzerland, and taking city breaks in Berlin and London. But the little red car always returns to Amsterdam.
