Flipping the Bird - Jaap Scheeren
Flipping the Bird is a visual narrative—essentially a photo novel—of a long, immersive walk through the dunes, during which the artist attempts to reconnect with nature. Over the course of this walk, Jaap Scheeren slowly falls in love with the landscape, the flora, and the fauna, and he believes this love is mutual. A unique, surreal, humorous, and conflict-filled dialogue emerges between people, flora, and fauna.
At the climax, mutual love turns out to be an illusion, and the main character must choose a path. The story takes place in the dunes, reflecting the constant threat the sea poses to our humble country. Human actions and the choices we make now and in the future are of great importance in this regard.
