HOLY MEN - Mario Testino
In 2019, Mario Testino photographed participants in the Kumbh Mela, a festival where Hindu believers seek atonement. A purifying experience in which the elements of devotion and belonging are as tangible as any part of the material world. Testino magnifies the occasion by photographing those at the center of the pilgrimage: the sadhus. In Holy Men, we met the sadhus as only Testino presented them: in front of a gray background, in detail and depicted as individuals despite being part of something larger.
