Just My Luck - Cécile Hupin and Katherine Longly
People have always dreamed of that small miracle that could change their lives. The invention of lottery games turned pure fantasy into a real possibility. All it would take, then, is picking the right numbers to see all our dreams come true. Intrigued by the real-life consequences such a life-changing event can have on players’ lives, we set out to meet those who have experienced it. Far from the glitz and glamour, the stories we heard all seemed inextricably linked to the notions of luck and misfortune. As if believing in one meant risking the other.
"Just my luck" aims to confront the dream with reality by sharing only firsthand accounts, keeping the protagonists’ subjective feelings front and center. Beyond the tenuous link between luck and bad luck, their stories tell the story of our society, its aspirations, its beliefs, and its relationship to money.
