THE FRENCH PROFILE - Claude Roy & Paul Strand

165,00 €
Out of print

La France de Profil was published by Guilde du Livre in 1952, and is the result of a collaboration between American photographer Paul Strand (1890-1976) and French writer Claude Roy (1915-1997). Combining texts thematizing elements of French culture with photographs, it is a true naturalistic portrait of post-war France. Using collages and different types of typography and calligraphy, Claude Roy provides texts of far greater value than detailed captions or writings that merely establish equivalence with the image. It is thus through views taken in various parts of the country (rural life, fields, portraits of young and old people, café terraces...) that the artists succeed in creating a continuous and unpredictable dialogue between themselves.
