RUSSIAN INTERIOR - Andy Rocchelli
An intimate portrait of Russian women in their private spaces. Andy began traveling to Russia in 2010, where he spent a considerable amount of time working as a freelance photographer and covering several stories in different locations. Russian Interiors grew out of a side job that allowed Andy to cover his expenses while in Moscow. He challenged his local professional competitors, accustomed to working in dedicated environments, by offering low-cost portraits to single women in their apartments.
This expedient soon developed into a substantial body of work, with an archive including portraits made for his clients and photos he kept for himself. The heart of this work is, of course, deeper than its initial commercial objective: this method has turned into a key to private spaces and stories, in order to better understand the intimate side of Russian women.
