The work of Franco-British filmmaker and photographer Marine Hugonnier, which she herself describes as “a politics of vision,” is rooted in the observation that what we perceive visually depends on the perspective we adopt. She explores, at the intersection of documentary and fiction, the various modes of cinema and addresses ethical questions related to the production of images, particularly moving images. The films she produces are generally presented as installations that evolve according to the exhibition space. Widely screened at film festivals, they now extend beyond the strict context of contemporary art to reach the field of visual anthropology.

Text by Martin Herbert

Published by JPR RINGIER in 2010 in collaboration with Malmö Konsthall, Kunstverein Braunschweig, and the Frac Champagne-Ardenne.
