THE PROTEST BOX - Martin Parr
This box set represents only a tiny fraction of the incredible collection of photobooks by British photographer Martin Parr (b. 1952), a member of Magnum Photos since 1994. “The Protest Box” consists of five facsimile-reproduced photobooks, all of which relate—albeit in very different ways—to the theme of popular protest. Considered true treasures of photography, each of these books seems impossible to track down. These “reprints” thus make a substantial contribution to our understanding of the genre, with the book itself becoming a true form of protest. The box set includes an introduction by Martin Parr, an essay by author Gerry Badger providing a broader context for the themes explored in these various books, as well as English translations of each text.
Photobooks included in “The Protest Box”: “Un Viaje a través de la injusticia” by Enrique Bostelmann América
(1970), “Para Verte Major, América Latina,” by Paolo Gasperini (1972), “Algeria,” by Dirk Alvermann (1961), “Sanrizuka,” by Kazuo Kitai (1971), and “Immagini del No,” by Paolo Mattioli and Anna Candiani (1974).
