MIDNIGHT AT THE CROSSROADS (Special Edition) - Cristina de Middel and Bruno Morais
Photographers Cristina De Middel and Bruno Morais spent three years tracing the path of Esù and compiling a body of work that responds to the spread of evangelical churches across Africa and South America, calling into question the survival of an endangered cultural heritage and making a substantial contribution to the much-needed unofficial version of history. Midnight at the Crossroads documents and records these transformations and adaptations from its origins in Benin to Cuba, Brazil, and then Haiti. Esù begins as a totem in Benin, becomes a child in Cuba, then a handsome young man in Brazil, and finally an old man in Haiti, but he is always a confusing spirit who challenges your certainties and makes you doubt along the way.
