*Mother and Father* is a moving chronicle of the final years of a sixty-year marriage. For ten years, from 1997 to 2007, Paddy Summerfield photographed his parents, reflecting on the bond that united them—a bond that even the effects of Alzheimer’s disease could not break. They become symbols in a drama of balance and tension, both domestic and epic. As he puts it: “I documented the loss of my mother’s world, my father’s loss of his wife, and, ultimately, my own loss of both of them.”
