PESTKA - Magdalena Wywrot
Pestka is a portrait of the life of a mother and her teenage daughter who defies gravity and passes through the mirror. It is a series of time-lapse dispatches, seemingly transmitted from an airtight space station suspended above a planet (and Krakow, Poland) where time has literally stopped. The world outside the windows of Wywrot's space station/apartment seems both distant and desolate and incredibly beautiful, almost devoid of human presence. Yet the mother continues to take pictures, while the daughter goes on with her life and grows up before our eyes. A kind of rapture seems to have taken place outside, while an intimate metamorphosis (and intimate surveillance) slowly unfolds inside. A dreamlike sense of unsettling dislocation pervades the entire work. This feeling is probably familiar to anyone who has lived with a child and experienced firsthand the endless and surprising transformations that occur day after day and year after year as a child grows into an adult.
