POLAROIDS 54/59/79 - Dana Lixenberg
Two years after the Polaroid Corporation went bankrupt in 2008, Dana Lixenberg (b. 1954) finished her last box of Polaroid 54 film. These 4×5 Polaroids, used as test shots for lighting and composition, offer an intimate glimpse into Lixenberg’s working process during photo shoots for numerous clients such as Vibe, The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Vrij Nederland, and personal projects. In addition to being an ode to this specific medium, the book’s extensive collection of portraits reflects the American culture and society that Lixenberg encountered in the 1990s and 2000s.
