STEMS - Lee Friedlander
Here, Friedlander focuses on stems. During the months of February, May, June and December 1994, he focused his lens on the wild networks of stems and the optical splendor produced by refracting light through the glass vases that held these plants. In 1998, Friedlander had both his knees surgically replaced. The following year, Friedlander decided to reappropriate the stems and finish them as a subject. Published in an oversized volume, printed with a special dry trapping process, Stems is the result of this unusual saga in the photographer's career.
