STEMS - Lee Friedlander
Here, Friedlander focuses on stems. During February, May, June, and December 1994, he trained his lens on the wild networks of stems and the visual splendor created by light refracting through the glass vases that held these plants. In 1998, Friedlander underwent surgery to have both his knees replaced. The following year, Friedlander decided to revisit the stems and conclude his exploration of them as a subject. Published in an oversized volume, printed using a special dry-mounting process, *Stems* is the result of this unusual chapter in the photographer’s career.
