STUDIO - Paolo Roversi
Paolo Roversi is internationally renowned for his romantic, intense, and ethereal fashion images and portraits—photographs that tremble on the edge of their seemingly fragile existence. A typical Roversi image appears to be captured in the process of becoming—it unfolds on the page before our eyes or, depending on one’s perspective, might simply vanish into thin air. Since 1980, Roversi has worked primarily with 8-by-10-inch Polaroids, and rarely on location. *Studio* is a significant milestone in his burgeoning body of work. Conceived as a series of 60 gatefolds, at first glance the book appears to be a collection of pages . The viewing experience is akin to peeling back the film of a Polaroid, from the darkness of an image that reveals itself as if by magic. Featuring images spanning nearly two decades of work, the collection offers a self-portrait of the artist and a window into the place where he creates his art. These photographs are a blend of the published and the deeply personal, yet all share the intimacy born of the place where Roversi feels most at ease; color photographs.
