TWANA'S BOX - Rwasht Twana
Twana’s Box can be described in several ways: a journey through a photographer’s rare archives, documenting the Kurdistan region of Iraq from 1974 to 1992; a son’s quest to find his missing father, who was murdered by a military regime; a young man’s attempt to piece together the fragments of a family scattered across a fragmented culture; the evolution of a photographer who, through the stories of others, begins to understand his own identity in times of war.
Twana’s Box is not just a photo book featuring a selection from Twana Abdullah’s archives; it is a unique glimpse into a time and place in a region that has since been completely transformed. Rawsht spent years collecting his father’s negatives and stories. His work as an archivist inspired him to become a photographer himself, working for Metrography—Iraq’s first independent photography agency—before immigrating to Europe.
