#1 CURATED BY PATRICK REMY
“I really enjoy browsing! I like to wander through a few select bookstores that dot my walks through Paris. I sometimes visit book fairs, but the sheer volume of publications quickly drives me away. Of course, there are the reference books for the work I do with fashion and beauty brands—and then there are the others, all the others! The photographic content is essential, but there’s also the physical book itself: that is, the size, the paper, the cover, and the layout as well. All these elements are inseparable when I’m making my choice. Too many books don’t meet these criteria. I love a surprise—sometimes the themes are far removed from what I’m currently interested in, but who cares!”
Here’s my eclectic selection—ranging from a journey through frozen lands to an Indian photographer’s tribute to his father, the diary of a young American woman who just wants to surf, and a nostalgic look back at childhood in Ukraine—along with many others that will enrich this new, one-of-a-kind bookstore over the coming weeks. And besides, I love the oddballs! These unidentified books push the boundaries of publishing and visual art—like this volume on food trials for American soldiers, that photographer obsessed with petunias, the experiments of Ron Jude and Roe Ethridge, or even the flood of images by the Japanese master Kikuji Kawada—not to mention the diary of a fashion designer confined to her Brooklyn home during lockdown. Happy reading! »
