Such work highlights the difficulties inherent in the term "Real." It proves that affirming the objective nature of a representation does not necessarily imply a reference to transcendental idealism, which does not prevent—quite the contrary—a clear distinction between the real and the imaginary.
The question of objectivity—which Lacan considered "insoluble"—nevertheless makes it possible to reject misleading sensory perception. It creates a possibility of meaning where the appearance of reality leads back to its phantasmagoria and its reversal.
