MAPS AND LANDSCAPES - Luigi Ghirri
Tbook brings together various sequences of the artist’s work, from “Fotografie del periodo iniziale” to “In Scala.” It thus reveals the diversity of the work and the artist’s curiosity. Such work highlights the difficulties inherent in the term “Real.” It demonstrates that asserting the objective nature of a representation does not necessarily imply a reference to transcendental idealism, which does not prevent—and indeed may even facilitate—a clear distinction between the real and the imaginary.
The question of objectivity—“insoluble” according to Lacan—nevertheless allows us to push back against a deceptive sensory perception. It creates a possibility of meaning where the appearance of the real leads back to its phantasmagoria and its reversal.
