GUIRRI DI MUSICA - Luigi Ghirri
“Ghirri di musica,” a book of photographs by Italian photographer Luigi Gilli. Considered a pioneer of color photography in Italy, this artist-photographer has dedicated his life to capturing everyday scenes and revealing the unknown within the familiar. A connoisseur of art, architecture, music, and more, he is a photographer sought after by renowned artists such as William Eggleston and Wim Wenders. In recent years, Gilli has seen a resurgence in popularity in Japan and abroad thanks to the reissue of his seminal work “Kodachrome” and the “photographic lecture” published by Misuzu Shobo. This book, published to coincide with the 2008 exhibition, focuses on music. Gilli, an admirer of Bob Dylan and a longtime friend of Lucio d’Ara, creates images inspired by music and intertwines music and imagery. This book brings together numerous photographs taken in the United States—notably in New York, Boston, and Providence—during Gilli’s travels with Dallah. These photographs are rare in Gilli’s body of work. It also includes an interview with Gilli and Dallah on the connection between photography and music. Available in English and Italian.
