IN SARDINIA 1974–2011 - Guido Guidi
These three volumes encompass the complete evolution of the work of the renowned Italian photographer Guido Guidi. Taken in Sardinia during two trips separated by forty years, the two series reflect not only the stylistic development in Guidi’s work but also the historical changes on the remote island.
The first trip took place during Guidi’s honeymoon in 1974, and armed with a Nikon F and a Fiat 127, he produced a series of black-and-white photographs that capture the social and political climate of post-1960s Sardinia. The second visit, in 2011, involved three cameras—a Hasselblad, a Deardorff 8×10, and a digital Canon—and Guidi’s now-famous palette of soft, almost resigned colors; It includes a separate booklet with texts in English and Italian, a preface by Tonino Rocca, texts by Luigi Fassi, Irina Zucca Alessandrelli, and Antonello Frongia, and black-and-white and color photographs.
