INTERRUPTED CITY - Gabriele Basilico
Through *Interrupted City*, a series created in Milan in 1997, he views the city as a living organism, revealing its anatomy. His analysis goes beyond a mere formal reproduction of an “urban landscape” to reveal the topography of its social and economic structure.
The idea was to sketch a portrait of the city and present an image that truly reflected its physical appearance. It is very difficult—though the temptation is always there—to depict a city as large as Milan in all its complexity. One runs the risk of creating a work that aims to be exhaustive but ends up incomplete, with its narrative tension diluted in an ambitious yet unwieldy mosaic of fragments.
