“Thirty years after the publication of the book on the Isle of Man, I was preparing my retrospective exhibition at the Museum Folkwang in Germany and began to revisit my negatives from the Isle of Man. I hadn’t had the opportunity to reflect on this work since the first edition of the book was published. As I looked through these negatives again, I found new images that I now liked, but which I had overlooked at the time or hadn’t used for reasons that baffle me today. I ended up with 250 photographs that I now consider my archive of the Isle of Man.
“This new edition of *The Isle of Man* draws on those archives. The photographs in this edition follow the order of the original book more or less, but I have altered some of the images, added thirty more, and printed them all in a larger format.”
