Alongside the Rome celebrated in classical iconography—a city of great beauty with a monumental and somewhat decadent charm, home to iconic landmarks envied by the whole world—another city stands.
Hidden away, off the beaten tourist path, it is home to more than half of Rome’s citizens. A chaotic, often brutal city. With its gates, fences, walls, trees, archaeological ruins, and cars—all overlapping and blending into an extraordinary and unique visual chaos—these are the suburbs. Though each is distinct, they are united by this same visual and architectural anarchy.
In this work, which unfolded over more than two years along the city’s perimeter, the author sought connections, passages, and dialogues, as if attempting to bring order to the chaos of reality.
